HOLIDAYS

Hello guys, here we meet again. Currently, I  am on my first-semester break !! (but only for 3 weeks lol). It is not that long but yeah, we should be grateful. And guess what, we already received our schedule for the second semester !! (oh god I hate that person who loves to ruin other's holiday) Okay back to our real business, I want to share what did I do for the past 2 days lol. I share this experience here because I don’t want others to find out. (if you are reading this, please keep your mouth shut)

So, Basically, I went to my mom’s clinic (not really my mom’s but she works there) to learn a few procedures which will help me through my entire life as a medical student. Huhuhu. I am soo freaking excited when I know I can be there. Okay, the first day I was assigned to the room 21 (blood taking room) I watched almost 100 times on how to do venipuncture (read: blood taking) from the Medical Assistant. They taught me how to feel the vein, which and what syringe and needle to use. They were very friendly and love to teach me. So I remember my first blood taking the patient. She was around her 80’s and she has a very large vein and it’s easily palpable. I was soo excited that I successfully took her blood for one trial and alhamdulillah I can take blood from 3 patients that day.

Besides, I can also hear some murmur sound from the heart of 1 y/o boy who was diagnosed to have ASD ( Arterial Septal Defect) which means he has a hole in his atrium. I was confused if that’s a murmur at first until my mom told me that it is it. There this one female patient who suffered from scoliosis. Those are some findings that I got on my first day.

Move on to the second day of my visit, I got to withdraw about 7 patient’s blood and it makes me have 10 successfully patients !!! It is my achievement for a first-year medical student to perform that procedure. We will learn how to do venipuncture during our third year actually lol. So, I also got to do the CBD catheter insertion procedure which I didn’t expect that I can do it at all !!! If you are wondering that procedure is that you insert a catheter into the patient’s urinary system in order to help them urinate easily. So this one MA taught me on how to do it.

Emm, so I watched a lot of procedure such as how to take an EKG, how to set a line, what to hear from a patient who suffered from asthma and many more !! and not to forget there is one girl who has Diabetes Mellitus type 1 but she only knew it when she was 18 (?) how weird is that. OMG let me tell you this one interesting case. There is one male around his 60’s who has a tube at his neck and surprisingly he still can talkkkkk. When I was talking to the nurse, suddenly his lid of the tube got to pop out and flew straight in front of me. Everyone in that room laughs!! Hahahahaha. It was one funny moment. Maybe you don’t get it but who cares.

So, I think that is all from me about my experiences during my sem holiday !! hope to see you guys soon in next post.

Fake it till you make it, xoxo.
